KrakenClaw Pro: The Story Behind the Ultimate Disc Retriever Head
Every disc golfer knows the feeling — your disc is in the water, you’re poking around with that clumsy hook, and the disc just keeps spinning away. KrakenClaw Pro exists because that feeling is completely avoidable. Designed, 3D-printed, and hand-finished in Raisio, Finland.
The Problem With Your Retriever Head
Most telescopic retrievers come with a hook. It works — eventually — but it’s clumsy. You’re poking around trying to catch the disc rim at exactly the right angle, the disc spins away, and by the time you finally snag it you’ve soaked your sleeve.
The suction cup ball is the most popular upgrade, and it’s a genuine improvement over the hook. You screw it onto your pole, press it onto the disc, and it grips reliably — even underwater.
But it comes with a real cost: weight. The suction cup ball is heavy, and at the end of a fully extended pole that weight creates enormous leverage. It’s one of the most common reasons retriever poles snap. Its bulky round shape also struggles in tight spots — through dense weeds, under overhanging banks, or anywhere the approach is narrow.
KrakenClaw Pro is the lightweight alternative. The flat, low-profile head fits where the ball can’t, and it weighs a fraction of the competition — protecting your pole instead of destroying it.
And because one is none and two is one, KrakenClaw Pro doesn’t make you choose: precision suction cups for smooth disc surfaces, and a redesigned hook for everything else.
The Silicone Difference
Most suction-based retrievers use mass-produced PVC or injection-moulded rubber. These materials harden in cold water and lose their grip when wet — exactly the conditions you’re retrieving in.
KrakenClaw Pro cups are hand-cast using Smooth-On silicone, a professional-grade material used in Hollywood special effects and medical applications. It stays flexible and sticky in freezing conditions, in muddy water, in everything a Finnish disc golf course can throw at it.
When a standard PVC cup is stiffening up in cold water, KrakenClaw Pro is still holding on.
Protecting Your Pole
A good telescopic pole is not cheap. Basic physics works against you — the longer the pole, the more leverage any weight at the tip creates. Heavy retriever heads are a common reason poles snap.
KrakenClaw Pro is built from industrial-grade TPU (95A Shore) — virtually indestructible and weather-resistant, but significantly lighter than competing products. Less weight at the tip means less stress on your pole and a longer life for your gear.
The Mechanical Lock for Distance Drivers
Suction cups handle smooth disc surfaces beautifully. But distance drivers present a specific challenge — their wide, blunt rims are awkward for standard hooks to catch.
KrakenClaw Pro’s hook geometry is specifically designed around distance driver rims. When the hook engages, the wide rim wedges into the frame and creates a mechanical lock. You can lift at awkward angles, pull through weeds, and the disc isn’t going anywhere.
For putters and mid-ranges the hook works as a reliable scoop — their deeper rims don’t create the same mechanical lock, but the hook shape lifts them cleanly and safely every time.
Make It Yours
KrakenClaw Pro is fully customizable. Choose your own color for both the frame and the cups — mix and match to suit your style or your bag.
Because every unit is made by hand in small batches, we can offer a level of personalization that mass production simply can’t. Your retriever head doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.
A bright color also doesn’t hurt when you’re trying to spot your head in the water.
Built to Last — And Easy to Fix When It Isn’t
KrakenClaw Pro cups don’t slowly lose suction over time. Stored unused, they last for years. In active use, the main cause of failure is physical — cups can tear during a tough retrieval. When that happens, you replace just the cups, not the whole head.
Replacement cups are affordable and available directly from Arcticsnap. The swap takes seconds and no tools. And if you want a color change at the same time, that’s easy too.
Maintenance Guide
Keeping your KrakenClaw Pro in top shape is simple.
Before your round: Press each cup firmly into the frame with your thumb to make sure they’re seated properly.
If a cup feels loose: Push it back in with your thumb or a blunt wooden stick — a coffee stirrer works perfectly.
Important: Never use sharp tools to seat the cups. Silicone is sensitive to punctures — even a small hole breaks the vacuum seal and ruins suction permanently.
Fits M5 threads. Compatible with most standard telescopic retriever poles.
